The Death of Cyberspace

Cyberspace is a metaphor we live by, which was born about two decades ago at the connection of computers, networks, experience and ideas. It has reproduced our experiences with information technology, which also shaped the method of our thinking about new technologies and challenges they present. It had been a useful metaphor for decades, but it is rapidly emerging world of mobile.

The "cyberspace” suggests that there exists a effective online world that is distinct from our real world. Cyberspace is a kind of fantasyland, where we take on cyber identities and connect in virtual reality. But when we put down cyberspace, we come back to the world of reality.

The importance of online communication is not in its division from the real world, but rather in how it is impacting nearly every single aspect of the real world. There is nothing such as "speech space" or "writing space" or "print space," so there is no cyberspace. The information technology transforms in our societies and our lives, minds, somewhat creating alternate worlds. The notion of cyberspace is not helpful for accepting the very real impact of online networking on our lives, and indeed the concept of cyberspace is slowly dying out.
